We’re fast approaching that time when our thoughts turn from celebration of one year to planning the next. Who’s up for new year resolutions?
I have a far more detailed 5 tip article posted on my EI & You blog. You can check it out here. Here they are in shortened form along with 5 more. Enjoy.
Make sure all elements are withing your power to achieve. It’s no good relying on other people or events to do the work for you.
A positive goal increases your motivation the closer you get to it. Having a strong purpose helps with the application of willpower and resilience.
Don’t dilute your effort. Have one goal and execute it well with all your resources. You can always reload later. Make it a marathon, not a sprint.
Targets are an all or nothing type of goal. Thinking in terms of process is more sustainable and takes more of a “journey” approach.
Examine all your goal failures and successes. It’s how we learn, so take full advantage.
Break your goal (or goals) into bite-size chunks and steps. Each one is more manageable and achievable. You’ll get used to a series of small wins.
Envision the result so you know when you are there. A vivid vision of your result will serve as a powerful motivator.
Reward yourself appropriately with each success. Don’t rest on your laurels though. Get back to it asap. Eyes on the prize.
There’s nothing like a bit of public accountability and avoidance of social embarrassment to help motivate you.
There are lots of apps and other bits of software out there – some of it is even free. Use whatever works for you.
If you do choose to make new year resolutions, I wish you well on your quest.
Have a great Xmas and a wonderful 2023.
All the best to you and yours
