The power of writing down your goals

People who document their goals and aspirations are more likely to accomplish them

Hi there

This week I want to talk about the awesome power generated by writing down your goals.

My personal experience supports the fact that people who document their goals and aspirations are more likely to accomplish them and also experience greater personal growth as a result.

There's also empirical research to back this up via a 2007 Gail Matthews goals study published through Dominican University. Here's a summary pdf.

So, imho here’s why putting pen to paper can make all the difference:

Clarity and Focus

Writing down your goals helps clarify what you truly want to achieve.

It forces you to articulate your desires in a concrete and specific manner, allowing you to gain clarity and focus on what matters most.

Commitment and Accountability

By documenting your goals, you’re making a commitment to yourself.

It becomes a tangible reminder of your aspirations, creating a sense of accountability that motivates you to take consistent action towards their attainment.

Visualisation

The act of writing down goals activates the power of visualisation.

When you see your dreams on paper, it ignites your imagination, making it all feel more attainable and real.

This visualisation process enhances goal achievement by aligning your thoughts with actions that lead to eventual success.

Tracking Progress

Documenting goals provides an opportunity for progress tracking.

As you accomplish milestones along the way, crossing them off or updating them serves as a source of motivation and encouragement.

It allows you to celebrate achievements while adjusting strategies if necessary.

Now is the perfect time to start transforming your life through goal setting:

  1. Set aside dedicated time each day or week for goal reflection and documentation.
  2. Be specific about what you want to achieve - include measurable metrics and deadlines.
  3. Break larger goals into smaller actionable steps for easier implementation.
  4. Keep your written goals visible - on a vision board or in a journal - as constant reminders.
  5. Regularly review and revise your goals as circumstances change or new opportunities arise.

Remember, writing down goals isn’t just a mere exercise; it’s a powerful tool that can shape your very future.

So grab a pen and let your imagination and aspirations take flight!

Hopefully that's offered you some food for thought.

All the very best to you and yours
