Hi there
I’m feeling very philosophical this month so I thought I'd go ahead and philosophise a bit.
I’ve been driving myself extremely hard over the years and this year I’m feeling hard-driven.
An autodidact is a person who is self-taught or who has gained knowledge and skills through their own independent study and efforts, rather than through formal education or training.
I’m a passionate and enthusiastic autodidact and have been for the last 35 years out of 59 and, as you are subscribing to my emails, I assume you are also an autodidact or at least would like to be one.
I need to monitor my overall condition, mental, emotional, and physical more carefully as I get older because self-development can take a heavy toll if given free rein. There is also less time in front of me than behind me, so the clock is ticking.
Self-development is a journey that requires unwavering dedication and resilience.
However, I’ve learnt that it’s crucial to approach this journey with patience and self-compassion. These two virtues are foundational to lasting growth and personal transformation.
It is all too easy to forget this.
Patience is the ability to remain calm and composed, even in the face of challenges and setbacks. It is the understanding that real progress can take time and that each small step forward is a triumph.
Without patience, we risk frustration and discouragement. These two mindsets undermine our progress.
Self-compassion, on the other hand, is the ability to extend kindness and understanding to ourselves. It is the recognition that we are human, with our own unique struggles and vulnerabilities.
When we approach our self-development with self-compassion, we create a safe and nurturing environment where we can explore our limitations and embrace our flaws without judgment.
Together, patience and self-compassion form a powerful pairing that fuels and drives us on our self-development journey. With patience and self-compassion, we can persevere and treat ourselves with the kindness and understanding we deserve.
Many people say that the true measure of success in self-development is not the destination, but the journey itself.
I disagree. There is a balance to be found. I benefit from and grow whilst on the journey but I also value and benefit from reaching the generation.
For me, life is all about dynamic balance and that’s what makes it exciting.
Patience and self-compassion can assist me in achieving this dynamic balance.
I can navigate this journey with grace, resilience, and a deep sense of self-acceptance and get to my destination in good order.
I definitely need more patience and self-compassion in my life.
How about you?
All the very best to you and yours
